Twenty Plenty Fun or 2020 won?

I do not subscribe to the "power of positive thinking" movement's ethos. Thinking positively and my actions alone cannot change my life. Accidents and plagues happen.

Sure, having a positive frame of mind makes a difference, but the bottom line it is only one ingredient in the recipe, and a minor one at that.

So what will make 2021 better for me (and you) than these last twelve months?

There are a few things about which I think that help me...

UBUNTU.

Black Lives Matter. Feminism Matters. If all I have is me, I am nothing... I am because we are, and when you hurt, the focus must be on you.

Get some rituals.

I wake up and make coffee for #LancasterLovely and breakfast for everyone to start the day, and she makes the beds. We sit 5 nights a week in the dining room and talk about the day, week, year, and life in general. Even the 5 year old is allowed to contribute his immense imagination. We try to also get him to eat! (This will be a fun memory in a few years time).

Feel.

Feel everything. The good, the bad, the funny, the ugly. Then think about it. Dissect it and test it and keep only that which moves you toward where you want to be. Recognize this will take time. Be patient. Feel.

Bear in mind that you will get it wrong often; error is good. Acknowledging it is better. Not doing it again is best.

Let's make it Twenty Plenty Fun...

So if you feel like 2020 won, please reach out... call me. Call a friend. I will listen.

Together, as team, we can make it Twenty Plenty Fun as we feel every day of the next 365, live them, learn, and have plenty memories to look back on with a smile.

Oh... and focus on something big... like I'm doing for March 26th, 2021! Have you diarized that date yet?

Birthday week 2020

Christmas

My birthday week

What do I want for my birthday (after my #1... time with family, obvs)?

1 - to have some quality time with folk at #TrailsAndTales

2 - to have you support www.charity.cellucity.co.za with R20 (where you can also win something from Cellucity as Sharon goes for a Guinness World Record)

3 - for you to diarize 26 March 2021 (read to the end... not long, I promise 😀)

4 - to say "thank you" to all my supporters.

Firstly... thank you to the following companies for your support and loyalty through this year:

Balega South Africa have the best socks. The company ethic of really creating a team spirit through caring right into their outreach programs speaks volumes. #ubuntu

Aspire #LiveFit offered to coach me to my goals this year, which changed drastically because of Covid, and in the end were delayed to Twenty Plenty Fun (2021). You've taken my training to the next level.

Cellucity... when your employer gets behind you offering more than just a job... #ImBlessed.

Squirrels Nut Butter has kept me running smooth!

So that is points 1, 2 and 4 addressed... but wait... there's another logo there!

And that logo is what all the hints and allegations and build up was about at the start of 2020! Then the day before we were due to go live: Covid lockdown. Now we know where we are, and what we can do about it. So I ask in my birthday week that you:

Diarize March 26 2021

Budget some money to support something economic, something ecological, something high, something long... You could support and win, you could purchase some paraphernalia, or you could share the word with your friends. All support welcomed.

If you have a company with year end between NOW and JUNE 2021, and you're looking to improve your BEE scorecard, or opportunities for Section 18a donations... you need to get in touch. We may not correlate to what you need, but the chances are we cover your goals in our outreach projects already! (Plus, I know a few people in the charity field 😉)

Running helps me heal, helps me grow. It also helps me relate

Why do YOU run?

One of the focuses of Trails & Tales will be exploring this question.

What do you get someone who has everything for Christmas? A week
end of running, resting, relating, and exploring inside and out...

Big dreams. Little steps

Speaking to my physical self  metaphysically...

Often we hear phrases throwing out to "positive thinking" and "it'll change your life".

And it does. But this brash phrasing implies its all about you... or your own ego.

Absolutely not.

If you're looking for an ego boost, your best bet is to adopt a dog. If mammals are too much trouble, then get a leech or a tick; they love you so much they won't let go.

In the real world there is nothing like a team, or friends, or family around you that you trust implicitly to work in their strengths to support your dreams... and they trust you to support theirs from your strengths.

In 2017 my team was thin. I'd lost a business, a friend, and some belief... I was priveleged to still have my family and a few close, dependable folk. Then along came 2018 with a few more friends, work, goals being slowly met and ticked off quietly.

2019 brought a brand of socks bearing this motto: "uBuntu"... and they've proved true to that! Balega socks are both technically awesome running socks suiting most needs and situations, as well as a team of people focused on their community.

2019 saw support from many people as I stretched my physical limits way beyond what I should have done... my biokineticist Ilona Hearne and Malcolm from Squirrels Nut Butter (SNB) get special mention here! (I'd be remiss not to include Live Adventure, Fresh Trails and Running Man Adventures here too as they contributed so much to my fundraising efforts for #RazeABar).

Then extra partners had me covered in 2020... no Covid, not you 😂. Balega were joined by SNB.

Ilona continues to work with my recalcitrant body... Dr Janin, a life coach and motivational consultant has brought mental and spiritual focus in a torrid year.

And importantly, Bruce and Tracy Campbell agreed to help my aspirations to go from strength to strength with coaching from Aspire Live Fit. I am following their coaching philosophy and running faster than I have run in decades... I've dropped nearly a minute per kilomer off my pace and feeling stronger and more comfortable at speed. This is in spite of lockdown backyard running and a broken toe. No doubt the work of coaches and biokineticists is paramount to my staying injury free (as long as I don't kick rocks and tree stumps!)

202won will be an even bigger year... I, for one, cannot wait to take it a day at a time, laying one little step each day and enjoying the moment with each of these special people.

Big dreams really do take a lot of small steps... in your life those steps are not all yours! The steps of your team are integral to your success! Make your team diverse.
