Often we hear phrases throwing out to "positive thinking" and "it'll change your life".
And it does. But this brash phrasing implies its all about you... or your own ego.
Absolutely not.
If you're looking for an ego boost, your best bet is to adopt a dog. If mammals are too much trouble, then get a leech or a tick; they love you so much they won't let go.
In the real world there is nothing like a team, or friends, or family around you that you trust implicitly to work in their strengths to support your dreams... and they trust you to support theirs from your strengths.
In 2017 my team was thin. I'd lost a business, a friend, and some belief... I was priveleged to still have my family and a few close, dependable folk. Then along came 2018 with a few more friends, work, goals being slowly met and ticked off quietly.
2019 brought a brand of socks bearing this motto: "uBuntu"... and they've proved true to that! Balega socks are both technically awesome running socks suiting most needs and situations, as well as a team of people focused on their community.
2019 saw support from many people as I stretched my physical limits way beyond what I should have done... my biokineticist Ilona Hearne and Malcolm from Squirrels Nut Butter (SNB) get special mention here! (I'd be remiss not to include Live Adventure, Fresh Trails and Running Man Adventures here too as they contributed so much to my fundraising efforts for #RazeABar).
Then extra partners had me covered in 2020... no Covid, not you 😂. Balega were joined by SNB.
Ilona continues to work with my recalcitrant body... Dr Janin, a life coach and motivational consultant has brought mental and spiritual focus in a torrid year.
And importantly, Bruce and Tracy Campbell agreed to help my aspirations to go from strength to strength with coaching from Aspire Live Fit. I am following their coaching philosophy and running faster than I have run in decades... I've dropped nearly a minute per kilomer off my pace and feeling stronger and more comfortable at speed. This is in spite of lockdown backyard running and a broken toe. No doubt the work of coaches and biokineticists is paramount to my staying injury free (as long as I don't kick rocks and tree stumps!)
202won will be an even bigger year... I, for one, cannot wait to take it a day at a time, laying one little step each day and enjoying the moment with each of these special people.
Big dreams really do take a lot of small steps... in your life those steps are not all yours! The steps of your team are integral to your success! Make your team diverse.
